The Frequency of Growth

Growth. Moving in the direction of your dreams.

Since I was young, I dreamed of the beach. I lived in Minnesota. No beaches. I had never seen a real beach, yet my heart longed for the waves crashing against the sand. I saved up my 4th grade allowance and bought a little pink plastic blow up palm tree and put it next to my favorite stuffed animal. I believed that someday I’d get to be on a real beach. I didn’t know what I was doing back then, but buying that pink palm tree aimed my heart in the direction of my dream.

When my family moved to Louisiana, I visited Florida beaches and fell in love with something my heart had already experienced as a child. The palm trees, soft white sand, waves crashing into the shore. It was the first time I had seen all of this, but I wasn’t surprised by any of it. I knew it like an old friend, from somewhere deep inside me.

Over my adult years I’ve spent time on as many beaches as I could get to. I’ve been moving in the direction of my dream to one day own beachfront property, live there with my husband and host workshops and health retreats from there. I had an opportunity to buy a beach front condo in Hawaii a few years back, and I did. My heart wanted this at a level I couldn’t understand with my mind. So, I trusted myself. And, it didn’t quite turn out like I thought it would – and yet I have a beach front condo! I took a leap in the direction of my dream, and even though it’s not my dream fully realized yet, the rental keeps building synergy in me that I can create what my heart wants.

Looking towards retirement, today I write from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I’ve had the most fulfilling vacation I can ever remember. I integrated all parts of myself—writing from a new coffee shop each morning followed by snorkeling, jet skiing or finding private beaches and other adventures in the afternoons. I’ve experienced connection in very special ways.

I saw nature scenes here on the island that I had imagined years ago. I had experiences here that only my heart and my childhood pink palm tree knew I longed for. I’m feeling all of this as confirmation that I am getting closer to the fulfillment of my dream. I even looked at parts of the island to see if this is where my heart gets to build after I retire. And whether it’s here or somewhere else, I know on this trip that I have moved closer to my dream.

Someone once said, “Everything is energy…Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality.”

What is it that you want to match? What’s your dream—that thing your heart has carried since you were a child? What are you doing to create movement towards your dream? Let this be your reminder that it’s time to move. Moving means action. Start somewhere, even if it’s not “the thing” yet, it’s movement. It’s faith. It’s trust. See what you already have in your hand and start there.

I think we want to “get there” in one step, so we don’t take any steps because we don’t see a way to get there in a single step. And that delays what God has destined for you. He put dreams and desires in your heart. And, it’s His desire to partner with you and fulfill all He destined for you.

Taking action puts things in motion and it gets us out of being stuck.

  • When we’re stuck it’s usually because of fear at some level. When you take a step forward, whether it’s simply making a phone call to inquire about interest rates, or driving around a neighborhood you’d like to live in, you choose out of fear.
  • When we’re stuck we limit creative flow. When you take a step forward notice how ideas start to come. Take a step and see how your body gets excited. Your body knows what you were created for. It will come alive and start creating possibilities and solutions where you never had them before.
  • When we’re stuck we don’t learn. When you take a step forward and try something new, you get to see what works for you. You get clarity on how this dream might play out for you. Build this habit of moving in the direction of your dream, and it becomes second nature. You start moving towards it faster and easier in time.
  • A wonderful side benefit of staying in movement is that your mind and body get used to being in a frequency of growth. You’ll look for ways to stay in flow in all areas. Stagnancy or procrastination will no longer be places you are comfortable.
